How Your Website Can Generate Ad Revenue

Any web site has the potential to be a revenue generating proposition. Do you run a web site or blog that provides free information or services to others? If you do, you have the potential to earn money from ad revenue.

Other on-line business are more than willing to provide other web site owners with ad revenue for displaying their ads if a these ads do generate sales. A win-win for all involved. The easiest way to generate some ad revenue is to signup your web site to one or more of the many affiliate programs that are all over the internet.

How these programs work is relatively simple, the affiliate (or in this case you) place an ad, web banner or some other type of link someone else's web site promoting a certain product or service. If someone sees the ad on your site, clicks the ad and eventually buys the product a commission is paid to the affiliate.

In this manner, once you have done the initial work of placing the ads for the other site, you just wait for the ad revenue to being to come in for you. These programs work great for those that find affiliate programs that closely match the target audience of the original web page.

You should also make sure that you closely check out the business that would like you to post there ads, you should feel comfortable enough with the business to have your web page linked to the products being offered.

By having their ad, you are in a small way endorsing the products being sold. It is not worth the ad revenue to have your reputation damaged on the internet. You also may want to consider a plan which rotates the ads, thus increasing the potential of ad revenue from different businesses.

Pay-per-click (PPC) programs are another method for your web site to generate some ad revenue. A PPC program provides our ad revenue whenever one of your readers clicks on the ads for one of the companies you have posted on your site.

You need to sign up with one or more of the major companies providing these services, Google Adsense and Adrevolver are two of the more popular PPC programs.

If you would rather stay away from these other programs, you could always try to generate ad revenue by dealing directly with companies or businesses that might be willing to pay for advertising space on your web site.

The difficult part of this method is that you need to be able to provide data that would encourage companies to want to spend advertising money on your web site. You most likely would need to show that you have a high amount of web traffic and that your web traffic matches the companies target customers.

While this could be a significant amount of work to prove that it is worthwhile for a company to pay you to advertise their products for them, if you are running an extremely popular web site, it may be worth the extra effort. A final method is called a dealer program.

In this method you actually add a webpage to your site which carries information on the other company's products or services. This page is tailored to fit the rest of your web site and to look like a natural fit. You ad revenue is derived from the sales that are made from your actual site, although the parent company does all the order processing.
